Uganda’s political scene continues to be dominated by music. It widely viewed as a means to engage the majority youth population.

Campaign music for the most part, praises politicians for their contributions and highlights their plans for the electorate.

Campaign music

With the general elections only four months away, the stakes are high especially with majority of voters now being the youth. Many politicians believe music is the way to relate to this category.

Whether or not these songs succeed in wooing voters remains to be seen.

The latest politician to hit the studio is the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kampala Central, Muhammad Nsereko. He is seeking re-election for the Kampala Central MP seat.

On Nsereko was spotted in a video circulating on social media apparently recording a new track for his campaign, titled, Londa Nsereko.

The MP is reportedly working with a renown city producer, Ronnie on the song.

The producer is popular on the music scene, having worked with big artists in the industry like Eddy Kenzo, Bebe Cool and Sheeba.

A video for the song was posted on Nsereko’s Instagram page, and shows the MP in studio with Ronnie. Nsereko, who is running as an independent, will be up against NRM’s Cedric Ndilima Babu, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)’s Harold Kaija, National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Fred Nyanzi, who were all nominated on Thursday.

To date, there have been plenty of political songs cooked up to woo the youth, gain their trust and entice them to vote. Unlike Nsereko, many have employed local artists to sing their praises. Kamuli Woman MP Rebecca Kadaga, FDC presidential flagbearer Patrick Amuriat, even the president, H.E YK Museveni are using this tactic.

In Nsereko ’s case, his latest attempt at music has left many confused. The teaser was met with criticism from both critics and supporters. Harsh critics asked him to abandon both music and a re-election bid altogether. They even suggested that he seek a collaboration with Fresh Daddy.

Along with the 45 seconds long teaser, he wrote,

“Londa Nsereko loading, composer’s time.” One thing you won’t miss however is if you know how he sounds, the voice in the song doesn’t sound anything like him.”

The new song is set to be released soon.
